Azadirachta indica, the neem tree, is a big tree that thrives in warm areas. The neem tree is a drought-tolerant plant that likes full light and grows well in sandy soil. It is an evergreen that typically reaches a height of 10 feet, though it can reach 20 feet. In India, neem trees are regarded as some of the oldest trees.
Because they contain natural insecticides that kill insects by stopping their eggs from becoming adults or larvae, they have been used as a pesticide by farmers for ages and as medicine by indigenous peoples for centuries. The azadirachtinoids found in neem tree leaves are poisonous to scales, aphids, spider mites, and whiteflies, among other insects. Apart from its toxicity, it also includes antifungal drugs called alkylresorcinols.
Similar to antibiotics, these substances eradicate rust fungus and grey moulds, which are the root cause of numerous diseases that affect crops including corn, rice, and wheat. Archaeological sites from more than 5000 years ago have revealed neem leaves, which have been used as a pesticide since ancient times!
